Four days in LA and our stay at the Marriott Marina Del Rey(Review Part 1)

6

This was our second time visiting Los Angeles and boy were we excited to arrive! We had previously stayed at the Marriott Marina Del Rey (MDR) and were very happy with the hotel and location we wanted to go back to check it out as its been about 4 years since our last trip to LA. Our home for the next few nights was here in MDR, a great location close to getting onto those famous California freeways and walking distance to Venice Beach. We love walking and exploring so it’s a great location for us. The hotel is also directly across from a large marina so we could easily walk the marina and check out the gorgeous yachts……the hubby was in heaven! He loves boats and any chance he can get we find ourselves walking marinas everywhere.

Checking in here was a breeze, they have a beautiful lobby and valet service is quick and professional. We were upgraded to Concierge Club and quickly off to our rooms to check it out. We are a Marriott family, very often choosing their hotel brands when we travel. We are used to a particular level of service and accommodations and Marriott never fails us. Rooms are always modern, updated and clean with plenty of space to store our clothing and supplies. Great bath products as well. First things first….where do we eat?? We found ourselves back at an old favorite the Baja Cantina in Venice, we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed delicious Mexican food. A perfect way to start our night exploring Venice.

Baja Cantina

Off to explore Venice, if you’ve never been you are in for a surprise. There is a totally cool, young vibe that really permeates everything! You can rent bikes, scooters or skateboards to get around, but whatever you do make sure you walk on Venice Beach. Great little shops, quick bites, skateboard parks, a long fishing pier and sunsets that will take your breath away!. It was a bit hazy the night we were down there, but still beautiful.

You will want to take a walk along the Venice Canals Historic District. You can walk for quite a while, we probably walked for 45 minutes and I don’t think we saw each block.

There are many bridges connecting the canals
Paved walkways throughout
Many cute houses and all different types
Birdhouses too!
ummmm……..
The man made canals were built in 1905 and were meant to resemble the canals of Venice Italy, dubbed “Venice of America”
Now this is a neat boat…..my kids would have loved to ride on this guy…..the black swan
Such beautiful plants and flowers too

So many of the homes had meticulous gardens and it really was a pleasure walking through the Canal area. Beautiful homes and plenty of wildlife to see. This is a great way to spend some time after eating a big Mexican dinner or to take a break from the beach. I highly recommend bringing your family to Venice Beach!

  1. Looks like you had a blast. I love Marriott hotels and they are our pick when we travel. Thanks for sharing this one.
    Love the swan boat.

  2. Great post! I live in Los Angeles on the other side of town and its always fun to have good ‘staycation’ ideas. Marina del Rey is a great place to escape the heat in the rest of the city!

  3. I have stayed a bunch of Marriott, this one seems really nice. I live 2 hours south of LA, I don’t get up there much but I really should explore more. There is so much to do up there!

  4. Always wanted to visit LA. I plan to read your other blog post to read about your entire trip. I’d like to visit one day and look forward to reading about your trip.
