A Quickie in New York City

Finally a night in the city sans-kids

Okay maybe this is not what you think its about 🙂 I am talking about a quick getaway in NYC. We were lucky enough to win….yup I said win, tickets to a Saturday night performance of HAMILTON!! I have been waiting quite a while to see this show, my kids have both gone, Jillian went twice and Johnnie once(when Jillian won tickets). We are very lucky in our house.

It worked out perfect as we already has a reservation to stay the night in the city. Even though we are only 50 miles away and John works in the city, I love the energy in Manhattan and we try to stay over a few times each year. It’s so nice to walk around, eat, see a show or a museum and head back to a nice hotel room for the night. We have stayed in quite a few hotels so if you are ever staying in NYC I have lots of recommendations. We are Marriott Vacation Club owners and I had some points I needed to use or lose so we opted to stay at Marriott Vacation Club Pulse on W 37th St. The location was fantastic, close to the theater district and restaurants we wanted and also close to Bryant Park Christmas Markets to do some shopping. It is also a great location to see the tree at Rockefeller Center or visit St Patrick’s Cathedral which we have done many times.

The hotel was great, very clean, comfy room with a great bathroom and great bath products which are always important for me. We didn’t get a view of the Empire State Building, but you can for an upcharge. They have a nice lobby bar with a jazz trio playing and a glass enclosed rooftop bar with fantastic views of one of the leading ladies of NYC, the Empire State Building. This is a great place to end the night with a sexy cocktail and some nice conversation about the day.

Finally!
FRONT ROW!!!!!
Beautiful theater

Let’s talk about the show, Hamilton!! I absolutely loved it, it captured me immediately. I love the soundtrack and was very familiar with the music and storyline before seeing the show which helped. If you love the music you will be so happy to see it live. The acting and singing was fabulous, they were able to throw in some unexpected humor which I really enjoyed. Buying tickets for the show is super expensive….still. We won the tickets in the Hamilton lottery. They say the odds of winning are 1 in 400, not too bad. You too can win them. For most performances the first 2 rows are only open to lottery winners and will end up costing you $10 bucks each. But with tickets costing $300 and MORE it is a fantastic deal. You can access the lottery online at https://hamiltonmusical.com/new-york/ or download the app. GOOD LUCK and let me know if you win 😉

Bryant Park
Rigatoni with vodka sauce- and yummy mushrooms!
Chicken francese…….yummm

Before the show we did some shopping at the Bryant Park Christmas Market, they have the most unique boutiques here. There is great food, hot chocolate and checking out the skaters is so much fun. I highly recommend you visit here. The Markets open at the end of October to early January. We then ate a delicious dinner at Tony’s DiNapoli (one of our favorites). We seem to eat here frequently and always order the same food…..I am never disappointed. It’s a very busy, bustling restaurant, so if you are looking for quiet or intimate, this is not the place.

on Broadway!
