Birthday celebration! It’s time for Money Cake!

0

I cannot believe my baby is now 18 years old! I know it’s cliche but……where did the time go? We love birthdays in our house and always have fun celebrating. Unfortunately Johnnie woke up with a fever on his birthday and spent the day in bed( poor guy…that really sucks!). We had to keep it a bit low key but will go out next weekend to celebrate properly.

my birthday boy……Johnnie

We have some birthday traditions like the birthday balloons and of course “Money Cake”. Have you heard about money cake? Probably not, and if you have please let me know, I’d love to hear more about it. It’s a tradition that I grew up with, my mother always made a money cake for our birthdays…..sometimes we would just ask for another piece to dig through just to get the money. Basically you can bake any type of cake, I always preferred chocolate cake with chocolate frosting but my kids love Funfetti Cake. So you bake the cake and once its cooled you place coins or dollars(totally up to you and your budget) wrap them in wax paper and stick inside the cake randomly. You cover it up by using the frosting like spackle and covering the holes, then just frost and decorate as you like, easy peasy! I like to rig it a bit and make sure the birthday boy or girl gets a “loaded slice”. Oh yea…..make sure you tell everyone there is something inside….we’ve had a close call or two.

I love hearing about others traditions, drop me a line I’d love to hear about yours!

Yummy…..money cake!
